week 7 urggg...

I blew it... I played bad... I was all over the place. I was really bothered by the setup of the bar... with people milling around and yelling and talking as soon as I started my back swing. It was not fun because the other team we played lacked any assemblence of sportsmanship.

Of course this lack of fundamental dart etiquette put us all on edge. We did ask them not to talk during our turns... with body language... and a couple times we stopped and waited for them to be quiet. Also I stopped my throw once when someone started talking loudly right in my ear. They were all sitting between you and the board... and moving around... urggg..

That all being said we lost 4-7 and I had a chance to win 2 x01 games and put my double right on the wire. If I hit those we win 6-5.

Sorry I didn't post earlier... this really has me anoyed... my elbow is poping again and I can't practice... and that team just got under my skin... Perhaps we will have FUN this week

Week 6... don't remember

We won 6-5 with Ryan on vacation against the team in last place. They only had two show up and their two best. I don't remember anything about the night. I remember us play "BLAH"... bland... boring darts. We just didn't close this week. We didn't hit those doubles to get out. We didn't throw enough 3rd dart points in cricket. We took this team to lightly. We just didn't close! Had wins we let slip away. Jason is showing flashes of it... in a game after league he hit 5, 16's on me... Steve, although he didn't throw as good as last week was still way better than the first 4 weeks. Him and I started off the night with a solid 301 dido game... where I closed first attempt at 32. I stunk at closing... but got in easy! every time... I forget what Keith did which means he probably threw pretty well... I was trying to get in my zone and that means I start trying not to pay attention to anything... ER coming on.. will update this post tomorrow...

Week 5... stepping up BIG

We won 9-2 in what could have easily been 11-0 or 6-5. There were some close games that we won and 2 close games we lost.

I was not on at the start of the match despite leading off with a win where I doulbed out on my first try and also doubled us in (second try). In the team DIDO Ryan told me I wasn't "in the game." I realized I was just playing darts and not focusing. So I went into total concentration mode... like when I play poker. I got quiet and probably wasn't the most fun dart team member. I got a bit grumpy and tried to tune everything out. This one guy kept standing just to my left right in the edge of my periferal vision. It was really making me mad. If the guy wasn't such a nice guy I might have lost my tempor.

Notes on the Y's Guy's<
Their bar stinks! Not enough room around the board or places for observers to stand. They were out of draft beer or the C02 was out... BUT that being said the Y's Guy's were the best hosts we have had. Good sportmanship. There was some playfull banter but nothing "sharking" or rude in the least bit. I really enjoyed them and despite their cruddy bar I look forward to playing them again.

Back to the match... I don't remember much because I was trying to get focused. I remember what I did... I Doubled out my doubles 01 game... I doubled us out in our DIDO game... I missed in our team FIDO game... I Doulbe bulled us out in my cricket game... I double bulled my team out in our (home team choice) cricket game. BTW Ryan took out the team crikcet bulls hitting 3 I remember that! I hit so/so darts in killer but nailed a couple big ones to take out the guy behind me. So I hit a bunch of big darts when we needed them but threw mediocre without pressure.

Steve Rocks the house!!!! Steve threw the best darts I have ever seen him throw. He it trip 19 at least 3 times, hit a trip 16, a trip 18, and several trip 20's. Better yet he thew 3 fat 17's on one turn in cricket (after league). If we had a most improved player award it would go to Steve.

Ryan... what can you say... Ryan was Ryan... a few moments of garbage... a bunch of 2 dart turns... and more 3 dart plus turns than garbage turns. He was not only the captian but the anchor of the team!

Jason & Keith. Can we say consistent! These guys make Ryan's job as captain easy. They pretty much throw the same all the time. Not many hot or more importantly... no cold streaks. There consistently good play with the addition of Steve STEPPING UP BIG turned our past 6-5 wins into a 9-2!

Final throughts I would be interested in who the other team thought was our best guy. The way Ryan structured our lineup, it makes it look like I am our Anchor. I threw some big shots so they probably bit on the psychological idea that I AM our teams best player. Despite my flashy shots... Ryan thew better more consistently. We are really coming together as a team. We are finding out who throws better together as a team. BTW the Sobo's Rock... ;-)

A tale of two cricket games

Game #1 down in the match Ryan leads off and hits 2 20's. The guy comes back with single single... trip 20... +40... Ryan does something.... blah blah blah it is 80-0 and the guy has 20's,19's & 18's closed and Ryan has them all still open... ryan picks up a couple on 17 and the guy closes... and it is 80-34... Ryan hits 5 darts 3 turns in a row and the guy folds...

Game #2... I bulled and lead out with a 20... miss tripple 18 (thank you)... and a miss... my opponent hits a 20 and a 17?... hit 1 20... he hits 1 20... I hit 2 20's now I'm up 20... he hits 3 fat 19's... I hit trip 19, 17, 19... up 39... he hits 3 fat 16's... I hit trip 16, 15, 15. blah blah blah... and 2 double bulls in 3 turns to finish...

Week 4... another close call

As usual I started off cold. This is the last two weeks in a row that I started super cold...

Both ryan and I heated up as the night went on. Our doubles cricket game together was a spanking! Keith as usual was on and consistent. He had one moment where he temporarily lost it... during his doulbes cricket game they had a big lead and only needed to close bulls and he got wild. Fortunately Jason threw a double bull and that brought Keith back down to earth as he hit the final bull on his next dart. I think Jason threw the best darts he has thrown this year and it is clear the pressure of match play doesn't phase him.

Steve... can't think of much to say... he had a rough week... exemplified when he lost a tip to his dart! Keep practicing... the path to improvement isn't a linear curve... see the dart thrower article about your first slump
